A short walk on a concrete path over a gentle
hill from Tekek Village, Air
Batang has a 2km long stretch of sun-drenched and palm
fringed beach that attracts most of the backpacking tourists.
The reason therefore might be less the beach, which is here mostly
rocky, than rather the nice atmosphere, the contact to the native
families and the peacefulness that you can find here. More tourist
infrastructure and kampung (village) life can be found here.
The best beach stretches from the jetty to the
south. The beach is moderately rocky during low tide. If you're
the adventurous type, head into the virgin jungle for a spot of
trekking and you're bound to be rewarded with spectacular waterfalls,
the antics of mischievous monkeys and sightings of large but shy
monitor lizards lazing on sun drenched rocks.
