Salang, situated
on the northwest of the island, and it was the favourite choice
of most tourists due to its fine white sand beach, its proximity
to Coral island and Monkey
Bay, some semblance of a nightlife and the numerous fishing,
snorkeling and diving sites. Spend a day exploring the vibrant
underwater gardens or enjoy a nap in a hammock while hearing the
soothing sound of gentle waves. A stroll by the beach in the evening
will reward visitors with a spectacular view of the sun setting
against the horizon. A concrete jetty and a freshwater lagoon
complete with huge but shy monitor lizards divide Salang
into two.
Salang has quite
a few restaurants for you to choose from and the variety ranges
from western to local to freshly caught barbequed seafood. All
food on the island is "halal".
Salang has a number
of rough and tough looking "cowboy saloons" where self-service
is the order of the day, rock music blasts from the speakers,
playing darts is the norm and sitting al-fresco facing the beach
is a must.
